Melanie Sumner is the author of the forthcoming novel How to Write a Novel (Vintage/Random House, 2015). Her previous works of fiction are The Ghost of Milagro Creek (Algonquin), The School of Beauty and Charm (Algonquin), and Polite Society (Houghton Mifflin). Melanie’s short fiction and creative nonfiction have appeared in eight anthologies and numerous journals including The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, The New York Times, Story, and Atlanta Magazine. She is a recipient of The Whiting Award, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and Granta‘s Best Young Novelist award. Her books have won awards for the Best New Mexico Novel and the Best Peace Corps Novel. Currently, she lives in Georgia and teaches at Kennesaw State University.
